Research Associate (m/f/d) for a Doctoral Degree

EG 13/14 TV-L; Part-time employment (65 %) | fixed-term

in the Institute for Virology, University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. Starting date: as soon as possible.

The position offers the opportunity and is intended to lead to a doctoral degree as part of the project.

Area of responsibility

    As part of the IMPACT-project on the development and evaluation of vaccines against orthopoxviruses and other zoonotic viruses, the responsibilities will include in particular:

    • Conducting molecular biological, virological, and immunological experiments to characterize orthopoxviruses and other zoonotic pathogens
    • Contributing to the development, production, and characterization of experimental vaccines
    • Conducting and evaluating studies to investigate the immunogenicity and efficacy of vaccine candidates
    • Contributing to the planning and execution of animal studies, including immunization and challenge experiments
    • Virological, molecular biological, and immunological analysis of samples obtained from experimental studies
    • Analysis, documentation, and scientific interpretation of the data collected
    • Presenting research findings at national and international scientific conferences, as well as contributing to the preparation of scientific publications
    • Writing a doctoral dissertation as part of the research project

Recruitment requirements

    • Completed degree in Veterinary Medicine and a veterinary license to practice, or
    • Completed university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant natural science discipline, e.g. Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field
    • Interest in pursuing a doctoral degree in the fields of virology, infectious disease biology, and vaccine research

Required professional knowledge and personal skills

    • Strong interest in virological and immunological research
    • Interest in working with zoonotic viruses and in the development and evaluation of vaccines
    • Willingness to conduct animal research
    • Good written and spoken English skills
    • Careful, reliable, and structured approach to work
    • Good communication and teamwork skills
    • High motivation and willingness to pursue further scientific training and professional development
