at the Clinic for Ruminants within the Farm Animal Clinic is to be filled as soon as possible. Depending on individual qualifications, the appointment may be made either as a civil servant or an employee under salary W3. Depending on suitability, an initial temporary appointment may also be considered.
The professorship for herd health management and udder health is at the critical interface of clinical practice, applied research, and sustainable livestock farming. Its core task is to further develop veterinary care concepts that consider the herd as a biological, economic, and social unit. The position exemplifies the transformation of veterinary medicine from curative individual animal treatment toward an integrative health management approach that harmonizes animal health, animal welfare, and food safety through maintaining the health of cattle herds, especially dairy herds and their neonates.
A central goal of the professorship is the establishment of an integrated research program linking clinical etiology, epidemiological risk factors, and economic factors. Research topics include digitalized herd health management, investigation of interactions between environment, animal, and management – particularly regarding milking technology and milking hygiene – using modern clinical and technical methods, as well as the integration of clinical and medical findings with aspects of food quality and the economic feasibility of interventions.
The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong willingness to collaborate with national and international partners and to actively participate in research networks.
Participation in teaching across the field of bovine medicine, particularly herd health management, in lectures, practicals, demonstrations, and seminars in veterinary education and training is required, along with the development of innovative teaching concepts. This also includes contributions to PhD programs offered by the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. Furthermore, involvement in internal and external continuing education for veterinarians, as well as organizing professional development courses at the Clinic for Ruminants, is expected.
Applicants should demonstrate a well-defined teaching and service profile as well as an established research record in the subject areas mentioned above, evidenced by relevant publications and successful acquisition and management of independent third-party funded projects, along with several years of international experience.
The appointment requirements are:
1. A degree in veterinary medicine and the corresponding state examination, teaching aptitude, and teaching experience.
2. A doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) and habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements.
3. Qualification or eligibility for recognition as a veterinary specialist in cattle.
4. Recognition as a Diplomate of the European College of Bovine Health Management (ECBHM) or a Diplomate of a corresponding American College.
5. Proven success in securing substantial third-party funding.
Evidence of completed higher education didactics courses and teaching evaluation results should be submitted with the application.
Further appointment requirements are set out in § 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG).
TiHo is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and the number of female professors. Women are, therefore, expressly requested to apply (§ 21 para. 3 NHG).
