Area of responsibility
The Institute of Animal Genomics is looking for a qualified person to strengthen the work group „Veterinary Functional Genomics“, which aims at linking innovative and future-oriented basic research with translational applied research in Animal Breeding and Genomics. The work group is interested in the genetic architecture of the genome in livestock and pets, and its role in the development of phenotypic traits. Sequencing data are produced, investigated by different methods including DNA language models and new software solutions are being developed.
Key tasks and focus areas:
- Support in the development and implementation of AI solutions, particularly DNA language models
- Further development and maintenance of AI models
- Contribution to the advancement of the AI strategy, as well as data management and process organization
- Support for the scientific team in the analysis of sequencing datasets (Next Generation Sequencing)
- Promotion of knowledge transfer and capacity building in AI developments and technologies
- Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams from molecular genetics, veterinary medicine, and data analytics
Recruitment requirements
- A completed degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or a related field is required
- Proficiency B2 in English
Required professional knowledge and personal skills
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or a comparable programming language
- Experience with AI methods (e.g., machine learning, deep learning) and their application to biological data (e.g., DNA language models)
- High level of initiative and self-organization to work independently within self-organized teams
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills, combined with the ability to develop innovative solutions
- Excellent teamwork skills and a willingness to work in interdisciplinary teams and foster collaboration
- Flexibility and a willingness to learn in order to quickly adapt to new technologies and research fields
- Experience in an academic environment is an advantage but not a mandatory requirement
